Facebook is under fire again, this time accused of allowing the body parts of endangered animal species to be sold globally on the website.

Watching the recent testimony of Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg leaves no doubt he has no issue with not telling the truth, even under oath.

Facebook is displaying advertisements for well-known American corporations on group pages operated by overseas wildlife traffickers illegally selling the body parts of threatened animals, including elephant ivory, rhino horn and tiger teeth.

In a secret complaint filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, wildlife preservation advocates allege that Facebook’s failure to stop illicit traders using its service for illegal activity violates the social network’s responsibilities as a publicly traded company.

Facebook didn’t respond to requests for comment.

The complaint, a copy of which was provided to The Associated Press, was initially filed in August on behalf of an undercover informant represented by the National Whistleblower Center, a non-profit legal advocacy group. The identity of the informant, who recorded video of face-to-face meetings with wildlife traffickers set up over Facebook, has been kept confidential out of safety concerns.

The SEC declined to comment Monday on whether the whistleblower complaint triggered an investigation of the company.

“Facebook is not an innocent bystander to these crimes,” said Stephen Kohn, executive director of the National Whistleblower Center. “Facebook sold advertisements on the very pages the illegal ivory was being marketed.”

Facebook is one of 20 technology companies that last month joined the Global Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, which was organized by Google and the World Wildlife Fund. Weeks after the March 7 announcement, an AP reporter was able to see scores of internationally banned wildlife products for sale in public and private Facebook groups, most based in Southeast Asia.

Among the items available were belts made from what appeared to be the fur of Bengal tigers, a critically endangered species with only about 2,500 still living in the wild. Also advertised were horns from black rhinos, a species heavily targeted by poachers with little more than 5,000 still roaming Africa.

Negotiations over price and delivery are often initiated by Facebook Messenger. Instagram and WhatsApp, two social media platforms also owned by Facebook, are also sometimes used by traffickers.

The allegations tying Facebook to the illegal trafficking of wildlife are surfacing while the company is already scrambling to recover from a privacy scandal that has wiped out $79 billion in shareholder wealth during the past three weeks.

The crisis stems from revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a data-mining firm connected to President Donald Trump’s successful 2016 campaign, had exploited weaknesses in Facebook’s privacy controls to collect personal information about 87 million people without their consent.

Zuckerberg will try to reverse the backlash against the company when he opens two days of testimony in Congress. His appearance will give lawmakers the opportunity to grill him about the Cambridge Analytica episode, as well as evidence that Russian agents manipulated Facebook’s network to spread false information that may have swayed the 2016 election.

The SEC complaint may trigger other lines of inquiry about how much of Facebook’s annual revenue of $41 billion has been generated by ads running on pages featuring illegal activity, such as the sale of elephant ivory and tiger teeth.

Facebook hasn’t disclosed that some of its revenue may be tied to illegal trafficking in wildlife in regulatory filings that are supposed to outline various risks and other threats that could crimp its profits or stock price.

Trafficking investigators say they have seen no drop off in the illegal products offered for sale on Facebook after prior public pledges by the company to crack down.

They are calling on federal security regulators to force Facebook to immediately freeze accounts being used by illegal traffickers and cooperate with international law enforcement to identify the individuals involved for prosecution.

Facebook’s Early Investor Warns That Social Media Giant’s Harmful and Potentially Irreversible Effects on Society (Video)

Uncategorized

by N.Morgan

Technology has taken over the world with such force, it is becoming almost impossible to remember what life was like before such technologies like the internet and Smartphones.

This technology is proving to have some unintended and dire consequences to society’s moral fabric and mental well-being.

In a recent interview Roger McNamee, one of Facebook’s first investors and a former mentor to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, warns of the social media giant’s harmful and potentially irreversible effects on society.

McNamee, managing director of the private equity firm Elevation Partners, joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the argument he makes in a new Washington Monthly essay, “How to fix Facebook — before it fixes us.”

He claims Facebook has prioritized advertisers and is aiding in the social engineering of its users, while leaving users open to unknowingly being herded into certain beliefs and/or feelings about certain topics.

You Won’t Believe What Facebook Is Demanding from Users Now (Video)

Social Media

(N.Morgan) In yet another attempt at silencing and tracking the masses, Facebook has begun to kick users off if they don’t present a valid state ID.

They did this for legal reasons when the police pick people up, they will use the “color of law” so they had to have a valid govt issued ID.

Color of Law is the appearance of a legal right.

The act of a state officer, regardless of whether or not the act is within the limits of his or her authority, is considered an act under color of law if the officer purports to be conducting himself or herself in the course of official duties.

Under the civil rights act of 1871 (42 U.S.C.A. Section 1983), color of law is synonymous with State Action, which is conduct by an officer that bears a sufficiently close nexus to a state so that the action is treated as though it is by the state.

Facebook claims to have been hacked, and is ordering people to reset their passwords.

There are two options: Give photo ID of friends on facebook, or have Facebook send a confirmation call to your cell phone.

This is not the first time Facebook has demanded a state ID to prevent your account from being suspended.

Facebook has done smaller versions of what is going on now since 2014.

This has never made big news, and the current action is the first time Facebook has ever asked you to provide IDs of your friends.

Who’s going to have that kind of information about their friends?

Obviously, Facebook is trying to clamp down on confirmed and tight circles of associations, just like what happened in Communist Russia, so people who think alike are pinned down with precision.

Asking for the ID’s of people you have friended, to be sent to them through YOUR account?

In the video below, Voice of Reason explains the legalities of these demands being made by Facebook, and discusses who is behind this tyrannical move.

Check Out What Facebook Is Doing to Your Brain – it Will Shock You (Video)

Health, Uncategorized

(N.Morgan) Social media has become a gateway for socializing in the digital world. A way for people to catch up with old school chums or maybe old flames. It has also become detrimental for some.Social media is a place where some people collect friends, as one would collect coins or stamps. Each friend obtained is some weird testament to an individual’s social prowess. Loneliness seems to be the main motivation for people seeking out social media platforms.

An article by Time Magazine points out some of the ways our brains react to social media stimulus.

That little zing you get when someone “likes” your picture or sings your praises on Facebook? That’s the reward center in your brain getting a boost.

And that response can predict how much time and energy you put into the social media site, according to new research.

In one of the first studies to connect social media use and brain imaging data, scientists led by Dar Meshi, a postdoctoral researcher at the Freie Universität in Berlin, imaged the brains of 31 Facebook users while they viewed pictures of either themselves or others that were accompanied by positive captions. The research was published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

“We found that we could predict the intensity of people’s Facebook use outside the scanner by looking at their brain’s response to positive social feedback inside the scanner,” says Meshi. Specifically, a region called the nucleus accumbens, which processes rewarding feelings about food, sex, money and social acceptance became more active in response to praise for oneself compared to praise of others. And that activation was associated with more time on the social media site.

The video below shows a connection between social media and being lonely. At 0:40 mark you may be shocked and your mind may be blown at the 3:40 mark.

Facebook Censors What Your Friends Post and What You See on Your News Feed (Videos)

Censorship, Social Media, Uncategorized

(N.Morgan)  In recent years, Facebook has become notorious for its heavy censorship practices, and it has now come to light that Facebook will not only censor what you or your friends say, but they will also manipulate what you are presented for viewing in your news feed.

Turns out Facebook deploys a tactic known as ‘Stealth Banning‘. Facebook is renowned for very rarely following its own Terms Of Service. Often times, individuals will find themselves suddenly banned for from a few days to months, all for simply having a differing political opinion from those who run Facebook.

In the video below, Mark Dice exposes this shady practice and discusses how deep these ‘Stealth Banning’ tactics often go. These actions being taken by Facebook play a key role in the social engineering we are seeing daily in our society.

Were you also aware that Facebook tracks what websites you visit after leaving Facebook? That’s right, Facebook tracks everything you do after you leave Facebook, a definite invasion of privacy.

There is now an alterative to Facebook, a website which recently opened and is called Seen.Life.

It offers a no censorship, no tracking alternative to Facebook. Seen.Life is where you don’t have to worry about being banned for holding an opinion or publishing your beliefs.
