An Intricate Game of Cat and Mouse in the Waters of Asia+Videos

False Flag Ops, Military, News, North Korea, Power Elite, War And Conflict

An intricate game of cat and mouse may be occurring in the waters of Asia, one which has led to the recent collisions between United States Navy guided-missile destroyers and foreign vessels.

On 16 June 2017, the USS Fitzgerald guided-missile destroyer collided with the container ship ACX Crystal just south of Japan. Seven sailors lost their lives in the incident.

On 21 August 2017, the USS McCain guided-missile destroyer collided with the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Alnic MC near the entrance to the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. The collision killed 10 sailors and injured five others.

A recent report in the Times UK chronicled how foreign vessels are turning off their AIS trackers (going dark) while in terror zones, raising questions about the actual cargo each vessel might be carrying. The article specifically focused on the Singapore shipping lanes, and suggested the usual list of illegal items like drugs, weapons, humans and black market fuel. It should be noted that the action of turning off a ship’s AIS tracker is illegal, but who is there to stop this global issue?

What if this same game of ‘going dark’ is being played out in the waters of Asia, and then you add in the possibility of a more deadly cargo like nuclear material for making a dirty bomb. With so much material housed at the Fukushima clean-up site plus other known sources around the world, finding and buying the components to create a nuclear dirty bomb has become easier than ever for enemies of the United States.

That would be a definite reason for the United States Navy to be sending single ships out into the busy shipping lanes, looking for radiation traces on any of the passing vessels. While new technologies are being tested, the older methods would require the Navy ship to maneuver very close to the vessel in question.

Using the cover of their recent maneuvers in the waters of Asia, the Navy ships could be working a specific search pattern, watching and scanning to locate vessels giving off radiation traces.

Then, in recent days, images of the U.S. Navy attack submarine USS Jimmy Carter’s triumphant return from a special mission began making the Internet rounds. What might they have been doing in the waters of Asia? Were they totally focused on North Korea or after a different target?

NOTE: There were a number of reports from early this year which mentioned a massive amount of melted radioactive fuel was not accounted for in the ongoing Fukushima clean-up. Then a July 2017 report stated a robot searching the floor of a damaged reactor had possibly located some of the ‘missing’ 600 metric tons of melted radioactive fuel at Fukushima, with Tepco presenting images and a video of what the robot saw.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/23/fukushima-images-show-massive-deposits-thought-to-be-melted-nuclear-fuel)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-24/melted-fuel-hunt-marks-advance-in-japan-s-40-year-atomic-cleanup

There is no evidence any of the ‘missing’ melted radioactive fuel at Fukushima actual has been physically removed from the site.

Live Stream: Protests In St. Louis Streets After Murder Acquittal For Ex-Cop

Corrupt Politicians, Court System, Injustices, News, Police Brutality, Police State, Politics, Protests

Guest Contributor, Jeffery Pritchett

ST. LOUIS, Sept 15 – Hundreds of protesters poured into St. Louis’ streets and some scuffles broke out as they voiced their anger after a Missouri judge on Friday ruled a white former St. Louis police officer was not guilty of murder in the 2011 shooting of a black man.

With the National Guard on standby in case of violence, authorities appealed to protesters to march peacefully in a state where racially charged clashes in the nearby city of Ferguson spawned the Black Lives Matter movement in 2014.

Police said a few protesters threw rocks and water bottles, while witnesses and video showed officers used pepper spray on at least five people about a block from the courthouse. About 50 riot police were on hand, blocking a ramp to a nearby highway.

Jason Stockley, 36, was acquitted of first-degree murder for killing Anthony Lamar Smith, 24. The former policeman, who was arrested in May 2016, was accused of planting a gun in Smith’s car but testified he acted in self-defense.

After the verdict, more than 500 protesters marched in downtown St. Louis, chanting “No justice, no peace” and “Shut it down.” Some held “Black Lives Matter” signs.

“I’m sad, I’m hurt, I’m mad,” the Reverend Clinton Stancil of the Wayman AME Church in St. Louis said by telephone. “We haven’t made any progress since Ferguson, that’s clear. Cops can still kill us with impunity.”

Mayor Lyda Krewson and Governor Eric Greitens, who put the National Guard on standby, appealed for calm. Local schools planned early dismissals and businesses shut down.

“Frustration, anger, hurt, pain, hope and love all intermingle,” Krewson said in a statement. “I encourage St. Louisans to show each other compassion.”

Al Watkins, an attorney for Smith’s fiancee, Christina Wilson, said his client was appalled by the decision. He said the ruling showed prejudice, pointing to a line where the judge wrote that an “urban heroin dealer” without a weapon would be an anomaly.

Judge Timothy Wilson’s highly anticipated ruling was announced more than five weeks after the bench trial ended.

“This court, as a trier of fact, is simply not firmly convinced of defendant’s guilt,” he wrote in his ruling.

Wilson said prosecutors also asked the court to consider a lesser degree of homicide but they did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Stockley’s use of deadly force was not justified in self-defense.

Stockley’s attorney, Neil Bruntrager, said the ex-officer on Friday was relieved and would seek to rebuild his life. “It’s been a long road for him,” Bruntrager said.

‘THIS AIN’T RIGHT’

In recent years grand juries have declined to charge officers involved in the 2014 fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18, which set of nights of violent protest in Ferguson, and the choking death of Eric Garner, 43, in New York. Baltimore police officers also were not convicted in the case of Freddie Gray, who died from a broken neck suffered in a police van in 2015.

Brown’s father, Michael Brown Sr., voiced his frustration after Friday’s verdict.

“You all know this ain’t right and you all continue to do this to us,” he told a St. Louis Fox television station. “Like we don’t mean nothing, like we’re rats, trash, dogs in the streets. Right now, I’m praying for my city because my people are tired of this.”

Protesters chanted as they marched around downtown, at one point reaching police headquarters before moving on.

“What do you say to people here when they have no faith in the system and these buildings,” said Kevin Nevels, 50, of St. Louis, pointing to the courthouse.

Prosecutor Kimberly Gardner said she was disappointed with the verdict and called on protesters to avoid violence.

“I understand the verdict has created anger and frustration for many in our community,” she told reporters at the courthouse. “I am frustrated as well. Destruction of our community is not the answer.”

Smith tried to flee from Stockley on Dec. 20, 2011, following an alleged drug deal, authorities said. During the pursuit, Stockley could be heard saying on an internal police car video he was going to kill Smith, prosecutors said.

At Stockley’s direction, the driver of the police car slammed into Smith’s vehicle and they came to a stop, court documents said. Stockley then approached Smith’s car and shot him five times with his service weapon.

Stockley’s lawyers said he fired in self-defense, believing Smith was reaching for a gun. But prosecutors said the only gun recovered from the scene had only Stockley’s DNA on it.

Stockley waived his right to a jury trial, allowing the judge to decide. He left the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in 2013 and was arrested last year.

Smith’s family settled a lawsuit against the city for $900,000 in 2013, Watkins said.

IRS’s Lois Lerner Not Investigated, Prosecuted by Trump’s AG +Video

Guest Contributor John Rolls

President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has no plans to charge former IRS official Lois Lerner over her role in the Tea Party targeting scandal, the Attorney General’s office said late Friday in response to calls by Republican lawmakers to conduct a full criminal investigation of Lerner’s suspicious activities at the powerful Internal Revenue Service.

In a letter to the lawmakers, the Justice Department said that “reopening the criminal investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence.”

In April, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Illinois, had asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take a “fresh look” at the case.

The committee members had said their letter to the Attorney General: “[Laid] out evidence on how Lerner targeted conservative organization Crossroads GPS as well as other right-leaning groups, while turning a blind eye to similarly-organized liberal groups, like Priorities USA.”

Lerner allegedly provided investigators with misleading information when she was interviewed by the Treasury Department’s Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). What GOP lawmakers found disturbing was Lerner disclosing confidential taxpayer information by using her personal email account rather than her office email address.

“Lerner should face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of that charge alone,” noted political strategist and attorney Mike Baker. “But I fear she will never see the inside of a courtroom. Does President Trump believe this is draining the swamp?” Baker quipped.

The GOP lawmakers said that Lerner had called conservatives “dangerous.” She sent out an email to IRS employees “Tea Party Matter very dangerous ….Cincy should probably NOT have these cases.”

The letter from House Republicans stated, “This investigation has uncovered serious, unprecedented actions taken by Lois Lerner that deprived conservative groups of their rights under the Constitution. Almost a year ago we learned that the IRS subjected certain groups to extra scrutiny because of their political beliefs. At the time, Lois Lerner shamefully attempted to blame the mistreatment on low-level employees in Cincinnati. The investigation to date has demonstrated that the targeting did not happen until IRS headquarters in D.C. intervened.”

Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News senior judicial analyst, on the Department of Justice’s decision not to prosecute former IRS official Lois Lerner for her role in the IRS scandal, said, “There is overwhelming evidence of Lois Lerner’s guilt.”

According to Judicial Watch, before her becoming the IRS’s Director of Exempt Organizations, Lois Lerner worked at the FEC where she developed a reputation for wielding her power against a conservative candidate and Christian-based political groups.

The revealing email chain shows a redacted FEC attorney asking Lerner if the IRS had issued an exemption letter for American Future Fund (AFF).

The writer of the letter notes, “When we spoke last July, you told us that the American Future Fund had not received an exemption letter from the IRS.”

In the same email, the FEC attorney asked Lerner if she could also advise him if the IRS had granted an exemption letter to American Issues Project (AIP) as well as to AIP’s predecessor organizations, Citizens for the Republic (CFTR) and Avenger, Inc.

In her response email sent to the FEC, Lerner stated that she would make it mandatory for her underlings to cooperate fully, something that smacks of an anti-conservative conspiracy, according to political strategist Mike Baker.

Lerner stated in her responding email: “I have sent your email out to some of my staff. Will get back to you as soon as I have heard from them.”

The majority of documents obtained by Judicial Watch analysts consists of extensive materials from IRS files sent from Lerner to the FEC containing detailed, confidential information about conservative groups or vilified Tea Party organizations.

The items include annual tax returns and request for exempt recognition forms, Articles of Organization and other corporate documents, as well as correspondence between the conservative organizations and the IRS.

Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code stipulates that it’s a felony for an Internal Revenue Service official to disclose either “return information” or “taxpayer return information” to any individuals or organizations including government agencies.

Initial news reports, such as a story in the Washington Post, when word of some of these IRS-FEC emails first surfaced, raised a variety of legal issues.

One legal issue was the fact that Lerner was supplying confidential information concerning the tax exempt application status of conservative organizations to an agency that had no right to receive such information.

Another was the fact that the inquiries regarding AFF made by the FEC attorneys in February 2009 to Lerner occurred before the FEC commissioners had voted on whether to investigate AFF (the FEC later voted not to investigate AFF). A third legal issue was the appearance of political collusion between government agencies with a seemingly anti-conservative bias.

Lerner resigned her position at the IRS in early October. In May, she invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in her, some say, arrogant appearance before Chairman Darrell Issa’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, according to Caroline May, political reporter for the Daily Caller.

“These latest IRS-FEC emails obtained by Judicial Watch seem to confirm that there was probable collusion between the IRS and the FEC that might have been far more extensive than was first indicated, particularly in view of allegations that, prior to joining the IRS, Lerner’s tenure as head of the Enforcement Office at the Federal Election Commission (FEC) also was marked by what appeared to be politically motivated harassment of conservative groups,” state Judicial Watch officials.

According to Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, “These extensive emails and other materials provide a disturbing window into the activities of two out-of-control federal agencies: the IRS and FEC,”

“And there is the very real question as to whether these documents evidence a crime,” Fitton added.

(N.Morgan) The beginning of the 2017 hurricane season has already wreaked  2 catastrophic storms that have left a trail of destruction and devastation in their wake.

The current hurricane, dubbed Irma, is continuing to tear up the west coast of Florida – with roof-ripping winds and gushing floodwaters leaving millions without power – after bearing down on the city of Tampa early today.

This “monster” storm measuring more than 400 miles wide was downgraded from category three to one on Monday morning, but still has maximum sustained winds of 85mph.

Warnings of hazardous storm surges remain in effect through vast swaths of the state from which six million people fled in one of the biggest evacuations in US history.

LakelandPD added 3 new photos: This is Why We Become Police Officers

Tonight a team of Lakeland Officers received a call in reference to a family stranded in the car that was submerged in about 4 feet of water in a ditch. Even though it was 12:30AM and the full strength of Hurricane Irma was about to hit Lakeland; our guys didn’t hesitate. They responded to Swindell Road in the MRAP vehicle which was able to travel in high water and withstand the intense winds.

In the car they found two adults and two small children, ages six months and ten months old. The water had reached the kids car seats. Thankfully… all were not injured and officers were able to safely get them out of the car for transport. With no injuries, they were taken to their house.

When you become a police officer you hope you make a difference in the lives of others. Tonight, there is no doubt these officers made a difference!

Top Scientist Tells CBS: HAARP Responsible for Recent Hurricanes +Video

Earthquakes, Environment, Geoengineering, HAARP, News, Population Control, Science And technology, Severe Weather, Weather Modification

Guest Contributor John Rolls

World renowned physicist Dr. Michio Kaku made a shocking confession on live TV when he admitted that HAARP is responsible for the recent spate of hurricanes.

Can HAARP manipulate storms, hurricanes, and earthquakes? There is definitely a correlation between these and when HAARP is active. This article will give some examples of that correlation. And while that alone does not prove a direct causal relationship, the physics of HAARP and the political agenda behind the program suggest that weather and earthquake manipulation is both possible and likely.

Physics of HAARP What makes these ionospheric heaters so useful is that they consist of phased arrays. A phased array is a grid of antennas whose phases (timing) and amplitudes are individually adjustable.

This means a great variety of different combinations can be tried out, synthesizing new and complex total wave forms. Phasing allows the output to be pointed in different directions without having to move the antennas themselves. For anyone familiar with the works of Tom Bearden, phased arrays also allow for partial phase conjugation or canceling of the emitted electromagnetic waves.

When EM waves have either (or both) of their electric and magnetic components cancelled, the contained energy takes the form of a longitudinal, potential, scalar, gravitational, or temporal wave instead. Ionospheric heaters can also “control electron density gradients and the refractive properties in selected regions of the ionosphere” meaning it can modulate ionospheric electron density.

That is another powerful method of generating longitudinal waves, using the sky itself as a giant longitudinal antenna. And so phased arrays can be used to generate an entirely different type of radiation, one that cannot be detected with standard EM-measuring instruments. Depending on their frequency and type, these waves can theoretically affect human emotion and biology, influence the weather, alter tectonic dynamics, and even manipulate our surrounding hyper-dimensional environment to allow for controlled invisibility and interdimensional maneuvering of military personnel and vehicles. In essence, everything that regular electromagnetic waves cannot really do

. This much I find plausible, that HAARP-like technologies are active on a level superseding those of regular electromagnetism, and that this is what HAARP and its sister facilities are really being used for. It is nothing the public knows about or can comprehend because this technology uses an expanded kind of physics of which only a small and sterilized subset comprises mainstream college textbooks. But it can be figured out if you have a physics background and study the implications and applications of force-free potential fields, as I have demonstrated at the Scalar Physics Research Center website.

Via : Sean Adl-Tabatabai

In an interview aired by CBS, Dr. Kaku admitted that recent ‘man-made’ hurricanes have been the result of a government weather modification program in which the skies were sprayed with nano particles and storms then “activated” through the use of “lasers”.

In the interview (below), Michio Kaku discusses the history of weather modification, before the CBS crew stop him in his tracks.

The High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) was created in the early 1990’s as part of an ionospheric research program jointly funded by the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

According to government office Anongroup.org reports: One detail in a plethora of academic papers and patents about altering the weather with electromagnetic energy and conductive particles in the stratosphere, research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said the “laser beams” can create plasma channels in air, causing ice to form. According to Professor Wolf Kasparian:

HAARP allows the military to modify and weaponize the weather, by triggering earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes.

“Under the conditions of a typical storm cloud, in which ice and supercooled water coexist, no direct influence of the plasma channels on ice formation or precipitation processes could be detected.

Under conditions typical for thin cirrus ice clouds, however, the plasma channels induced a surprisingly strong effect of ice multiplication.

Within a few minutes, the laser action led to a strong enhancement of the total ice particle number density in the chamber by up to a factor of 100, even though only a 10−9 fraction of the chamber volume was exposed to the plasma channels.

The newly formed ice particles quickly reduced the water vapor pressure to ice saturation, thereby increasing the cloud optical thickness by up to three orders of magnitude.”

To really understand geoengineering, researchers have identified defense contractors Raytheon, BAE Systems, and corporations such as General Electric as being heavily involved with geoengineering. According to Peter A. Kirby, Massachusetts has historically been a center of geoengineering research.

Magnitude 8.1 Earthquake Hits Mexico, Tsunami Waves Triggered (Video)

Earthquakes, News, Severe Weather

Guest Contributor, Jeffery Pritchett

An earthquake of magnitude 8.1 struck off the southern coast of Mexico late on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, killing six people and shaking buildings as far away as Guatemala as people ran into the streets of Mexico City.

The quake at 11.49pm local time triggered waves as high as 2.3 ft (0.7 m) in Mexico, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) says. It says widespread hazardous tsunami waves were possible within three hours.

A number of buildings suffered severe damage in parts of southern Mexico. Some of the worst initial reports came from Juchitan in Oaxaca state, where sections of the town hall, a hotel, a bar and other buildings were reduced to rubble.

The cornice of a hotel collapsed in the southern tourist city of Oaxaca, a witness reports.

Four people were killed in his state, says Manuel Velasquez, the governor of Chiapas.

Two children were killed in neighbouring Tabasco state, the state governor said.

Mexico’s civil protection agency says it was the strongest earthquake to hit the country since a devastating 1985 tremor that toppled buildings and killed thousands.

The organisation’s national coordinator said on Twitter that low-lying zones in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas could expect waves of up to 4.2 metres.

People in the capital, one of the world’s largest cities, ran out into the streets in pyjamas as alarms sounded after the quake struck just before midnight, a Reuters witness said.

Helicopters hovered overhead a few minutes later, apparently looking for damage to buildings in the city built on a spongy, drained lake bed.

In one central neighbourhood, dozens of people stood outside after the quake, some wrapped in blankets against the cool night air as children were crying.

Liliana Villa, 35, was in her apartment when the earthquake struck and she fled to the street in her pyjamas.

“It felt horrible, and I thought, ‘this is going to fall’.”

“Based on all available date … widespread hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says.

“Tsunami waves reaching more than three meters above the tide level are possible along the coasts of Mexico,” it states, with lower waves in other countries.

The Coming Run On Banks & Pensions (Video)

Banksters, Conspiracy Theories, Corrupt Politicians, Economy, News, Politics

Guest Contributor John Rolls

“There are folks that are saying you know what, I don’t care, I’m going to lock in my retirement now and get out while I can and fight it as a retiree if they go and change the retiree benefits,” he said. – Executive Director for the Kentucky Association of State Employees, Proposed Pension Changes Bring Fears Of State Worker Exodus

The public awareness of the degree to which State pension funds are underfunded has risen considerably over the past year. It’s a problem that’s easy to hide as long as the economy is growing and State tax receipts grow. It’s a catastrophe when the economic conditions deteriorate and tax revenue flattens or declines, as is occurring now.

Quote above references a report of a 20% jump in Kentucky State worker retirements in August after it was reported that a consulting group recommended that the State restructure its State pension system. I personally know a teacher who left her job in order to cash completely out of her State employee pension account in Colorado (Colorado PERA). She knows the truth.

The problem with under-funding is significantly worse than reported. Pensions are run like Ponzi schemes. As long as the amount of cash coming in to the fund is equal to or exceeds beneficiary payouts, the scheme can continue. But for years, due to poor investment decisions and Fed monetary policies, beneficiary payouts have been swamping investment returns and fund contributions.

Pension funds have notoriously over-marked their illiquid risky investments and understated their projected actuarial investment returns in order to hide the degree to which they are over-funded. Most funds currently assume 7% to 8% future rates of return. Unfortunately, the ability to generate returns like that have been impossible with interest rates near zero.

The quest to compensate for low fixed income returns, pension funds have plowed money into stocks, private equity funds and illiquid and very risky investments, like subprime auto loan securities and commercial real estate. Some pension funds have as much as 20% of their assets in private equity.

When the stock market inevitably cracks, it will wipe pensions out.

An example of pensions over-estimating their future return calculations, the State of Minnesota adjusted the net present value of its future liabilities from 8% down to 4.6% (note: this is the same as lowering its projected ROR from 8% to 4.6%). The rate of under-funding went from 20% to 47%.

I can guarantee you with my life that if an independent auditor spent the time required to implement a bona fide market value mark-to-market on that fund’s illiquid assets, the amount of under-funding would likely jump up to at least 70%. “Bona fide mark-to-market” means, “at what price will you buy this from me now with cash upfront?”

Instance, what is the true market price at which the fund could sell its private equity fund investments? Harvard is trying to sell $2.5 billion in real estate and private equity investments. The move was announced in May and there have not been any material updates since then other than a quick press release in early July that an investment fund was looking at the assets offered. I would suggest that the bid for these assets is either lower than expected or non-existent other than a pennies on the dollar “option value” bid.

At some point current pension fund beneficiaries are going to seek an upfront cash-out. If enough beneficiaries begin to inquire about this, it could trigger a run on pensions and drastic measures will be implemented to prevent this.

Similarly, per the sleuthing of Wolf Richter, ECB is seeking from the European Commission the authority to implement a moratorium on cash withdrawals from banks at its discretion. The only reason for this is concern over the precarious financial condition of the European banking system.

And it’s not just some cavalier Italian and Spanish banks. I would suggest that Deutsche Bank, at any given moment, is on the ropes.

But make no mistake. The U.S. banks are in no better condition than their European counter-parts. If Europe is moving toward enabling the ECB to close the bank windows ahead of an impending financial crisis, the Fed is likely already working on a similar proposal.

All it will take is an extended 10-20% draw-down in the stock market to trigger a massive run on custodial assets – pensions, banks and brokerages.

This includes the IRA’s. I would suggest that one of the primary motivations behind the Fed/PPT’s no-longer-invisible hand propping up the stock and fixed income markets is the knowledge of the pandemonium that will ensue if the stock market were allowed to embark on a true price discovery mission.

Every other attempt throughout history to control the laws of economics and perpetuate Ponzi schemes, the current attempt by Central Banks globally will end with a spectacular collapse. I would suggest that this is one of the driving forces underlying the repeated failure by the western Central Banks to drive the price of gold lower since mid-December 2015.

I would also suggest that it would be a good idea to keep as little of your wealth as possible tied up in banks and other financial “custodians.” The financial system is one giant “Roach Motel” – you check your money in but eventually you’ll never get it out.

North Korea: US Security Lost for Want of a Backbone

Military, News, North Korea, Politics, War And Conflict, Worldwide Nuclear Threat

Guest Contributor John Rolls

Lyrics from a 14th century nursery rhyme encouraged children to apply the art of logical progression to the consequences of their actions or inactions. It needs be heeded today in dealing with the North Korean nuclear threat.

“For Want of a Nail” is a journey down the road of causal connection:

For want of a (horseshoe) nail, the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of a horse, the rider was lost.
For want of a rider, the message was lost.
For want of the message, the battle was lost.
For want of the battle, the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

As President Donald Trump and North Korea’s “Incredible Bulk” leader, Kim Jong-un, exchange nuclear threats, we hear a chorus of experts who, out of frustration, suggest our inability to prevent Pyongyang from obtaining a nuclear arsenal should focus our efforts instead upon deterring it from using such weapons.

The most recent high-profile voice making this case is President Barack Obama’s former national security adviser, Susan Rice.

Acknowledging that Obama’s North Korea foreign policy was a failure – as well as that of his two predecessors – Rice urges Trump, in a New York Times op-ed, to tolerate Pyongyang’s violation of international promises and regulations “the same way we tolerated the far greater threat of thousands of Soviet nuclear weapons during the Cold War.”

Rice’s ostrich-like, head-in-the-sand mentality explains why much of Obama’s foreign policy was a failure. The Obama-Rice team was simply unable to apply logical progression to its end point.

Rice’s op-ed contains fatal flaws that can prove lethal to our security if followed by Trump.

First, she suggests yet another diplomatic initiative be undertaken to convince the North Koreans their best interests are served by not using such weapons. Rice seems to ignore the fact all previous negotiations with Pyongyang have failed – only being used by its leadership to lull the West into a false sense of security as its nuclear and missile programs advanced.

As John Bolton pointed out in his own op-ed, “North Korea has always been willing to promise to abandon its nuclear ambitions to get tangible economic benefits. It just never gets around to honoring its commitments.”

Another experienced diplomat, Fred Ikle, has described diplomacy with the North Koreans as “boundless mendacity.”

Thus, it should be abundantly clear to any North Korea expert that diplomacy with the rogue nation is meaningless.

Second, Rice advises putting the focus on deterring Pyongyang from using its nuclear arsenal. But that should not be our main concern. In that regard, Rice’s assertion the Soviets posed a “far greater threat” is frighteningly naive.

The most important priority for Kim Jong-un, just like any despotic ruler, clearly is self-preservation. Suffering a retaliatory strike by initiating a nuclear attack against the U.S. would not play into that theme. The Soviets realized this, allowing us to survive a Cold War in which large nuclear arsenals were tolerated. The Soviets understood, as Kim does today, the concept of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) leaves devastation on both sides, albeit total in North Korea.

Therefore, while it is reasonable to assume North Korea would not initiate a nuclear conflict, the logical progression of a nuclear-armed Pyongyang must be taken a step further. Doing so recognizes Kim will not hesitate to sell nukes to countries willing to use them – like Iran.

Tehran has worked closely with Pyongyang to take advantage of its nuclear and missile research and development. The two have been so closely involved that North Korean expert Ryan Mauro recently observed, if Pyongyang has mini-nukes, then so too does Tehran.

The Obama-Rice team knew of this relationship, yet turned a blind eye to it. Never demanded by Obama in the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated with Iran was that any continuing R&D relationship with North Korea violated the entire intent of the deal.

The bottom line concerning Rice’s advice is that she fails to grasp, while MAD deters North Korea, it does not deter Iran. Key is Tehran’s eschatological belief that global chaos is necessary to trigger the return of the Mahdi, who will lead Islam to world domination. Obviously, the best way to achieve such chaos is a nuclear strike. Thus Iran’s religious leaders are unfazed by any retaliatory action so triggered.

There are various ways Iran could effect this strike. While Tehran may currently lack missile delivery accuracy and range, one option is enlisting the terrorist group Hezbollah to do its dirty work.

Ever since 2006, Hezbollah, with Iran’s help, has been developing a South American presence. This initially was done in Venezuela, courtesy of the late dictator Hugo Chavez. Since then, Hezbollah has developed a relationship with drug cartels, allowing it to access our borders. Additionally, it now has a missile base in Venezuela – a presence never challenged by the Obama-Rice team. Thus, either a shorter-range missile fired from Venezuela or a suicide bomber sneaking a nuclear device across our borders could facilitate such a strike.

It is unconscionable any U.S. leader would examine the North Korean nuclear issue in a vacuum. If we show no backbone in dealing with North Korea, it gives Iran the green light to pave the way for Mahdi’s return.

As to U.S. inaction, the following logical progression must be considered:

For want of a U.S. backbone, prevention of North Korean nuclear proliferation was lost.

For want of preventing such proliferation, deterring Pyongyang from selling mini-nukes to Iran was lost.

For want of precluding the sale of mini-nukes to Iran, Iran’s so arming Hezbollah was lost.

For want of preventing a nuclear-armed Hezbollah, U.S. national security was lost.

And all for the want of a backbone.

The “For Want of a Nail” lesson of logical progression has been around for centuries. Benjamin Franklin believed it important enough to include in his 1732 publication of “Poor Richard’s Almanack.” Hopefully, it will not be lost upon President Trump.

The Empire Strikes Back – At Bitcoin

Biotcoin, Cryptocurrencies, Economy, Gold, News

Guest Contributor John Rolls

One of the uncertainties with cryptocurrencies has always been how governments would react once bitcoin and its kin got big enough to actually threaten the monopolies of national fiat currencies.

That day seemed to be approaching as cryptocurrencies’ aggregate market cap blew through $100 billion and the pipeline of new bitcoin wannabes (initial coin offerings, or ICOs) swelled into the hundreds. Even – in a classic sign of a bubble top — Paris Hilton got involved:

Hotel Heiress Paris Hilton Is the Latest Celebrity to Promote an ICO

(Coin Desk) – Celebrity heiress and reality TV star Paris Hilton has taken to Twitter to announce her participation in a token sale, or ICO.

Called Lydian, the venture claims the project is developing “blockchain driven technologies to reduce ad fraud and to maximize the effectiveness of ad marketing expenditures.” The idea has been floated by a number of projects of late, including efforts backed by advertising industry participants.

In the tweet, Hilton wrote:

Looking forward to participating in the new @LydianCoinLtd Token! #ThisIsNotAnAd #CryptoCurrency #BitCoin #ETH #BlockChain pic.twitter.com/a8kT9eHEko  — Paris Hilton (@ParisHilton) September 3, 2017

And lately governments have indeed begun to defend their turf. The US Internal Revenue Service decided that since cryptocurrencies were clearly not money (only the dollar is money!) they must be commodities, which means every transaction creates a taxable gain or loss. In August the IRS drove the point home by unveiling software that can track supposedly anonymous crypto transactions:

The IRS Has Special Software to Find Bitcoin Tax Cheats

(Fortune) – One benefit of using bitcoin is the digital currency can be anonymous—its owners can move money around the world without revealing who they are. Well, in theory at least. In reality, bitcoin is less secret than people think.

The latest reminder of this comes via a report that the Internal Revenue Service is using software to unmask bitcoin users who have failed to report profits. According to a contract unearthed by the Daily Beast, the IRS is paying a company called Chainalysis to help identify the owners of digital “wallets” that users employ to store their bitcoins.

In a letter to the IRS, the co-founder of Chainalysis says the company has information on 25 percent of all bitcoin addresses and that it deploys millions of tags to help track and identify transactions.

The decision by the IRS to license the software of Chainalysis, which is based in Switzerland with an office in New York, appears to be part of the agency’s larger campaign to target digital currency users who have failed to pay tax.

As Fortune reported earlier this year, the IRS claims only 802 people declared a capital gain or loss related to bitcoin in 2015. This is significant since the price of bitcoin soared from around $13 to over $1100 between 2013 and 2015, and hundreds of thousands (like millions) of Americans bought and sold digital currency during this time—in other words, there are many people who face bitcoin-related tax trouble, and the IRS is tracking some of them down.

Then China decided it had had enough of the dot-com-like tsunami of new digital currencies pouring into its economy, and banned future releases, crashing the price of most extant cryptocurrencies.

China Halts Initial Coin Offerings

(Bloomberg) – Bitcoin tumbled the most since July after China’s central bank said initial coin offerings are illegal and asked all related fundraising activity to be halted immediately, issuing the strongest regulatory challenge so far to the burgeoning market for digital token sales.

The People’s Bank of China said on its website Monday that it had completed investigations into ICOs, and will strictly punish offerings in the future while penalizing legal violations in ones already completed. The regulator said that those who have already raised money must provide refunds, though it didn’t specify how the money would be paid back to investors.

It also said digital token financing and trading platforms are prohibited from doing conversions of coins with fiat currencies. Digital tokens can’t be used as currency on the market and banks are forbidden from offering services to initial coin offerings.

“This is somewhat in step with, maybe not to the same extent, what we’re starting to see in other jurisdictions — the short story is we all know regulations are coming,” said Jehan Chu, managing partner at Kenetic Capital Ltd. in Hong Kong, which invests in and advises on token sales. “China, due to its size and as one of the most speculative IPO markets, needed to take a firmer action.”

Bitcoin tumbled as much as 11.4 percent, the most since July, to $4,326.75. The ethereum cryptocurrency was down more than 16 percent Monday, according to data from Coindesk.

And apparently there’s more coming:

ICO crackdown may just be the start: China is reportedly planning tighter cryptocurrency rules

(CNBC) – China is poised to further tighten rules on virtual currencies after regulators on Monday banned virtual coin fundraising schemes, Chinese financial news outlet Yicai reported, citing sources.

China banned and deemed illegal the practice of raising funds through launches of token-based digital currencies, targeting so-called initial coin offerings (ICO) in a market that has exploded since the start of the year.

Yicai’s report late Monday cited a source close to decision-makers as saying the announcement on the ban was just the start of further follow-up regulations of virtual currencies.

The above raises two big questions. First, how will cryptocurrencies fare in a world of increasingly strict and complex regulations? Second, what kinds of assets stand to benefit if cryptocurrencies cease to function as “digital gold”?

The first question is a tough one, because it involves the interplay of governments, revolutionary tech and free markets, which means pretty much anything is possible. The second, though, is easier: If digital gold falters, real gold wins:

Mobius Foresees Cryptocurrency Crackdown Sparking a Rush to Gold

(Bloomberg) – Mark Mobius is sensing danger in the explosive growth of cryptocurrencies.

Governments will begin clamping down on digital currencies because of their use in illicit financing, with terrorist groups to drug dealers contributing to their rise, Mobius, executive chairman at Templeton Emerging Markets Group, said in an interview in Hong Kong Monday.

“Cryptocurrencies are beginning to get out of control and it’s going to attract the attention of governments around the world,” Mobius said. “You’re going to get a reversion back to gold because people are going to wonder, can I really trust these currencies?”

Mobius isn’t the only one voicing concern. Bank of America Merrill Lynch was cautious around bitcoin in July, saying there were a lot of obstacles, such as theft and hacking risks, that make it unlikely it will gain the status of pledgeable collateral.

“People need a means of exchange and they need to trust that,” said Mobius, who was interviewed before China’s announcement. “Right now the trust is good — with bitcoin people are buying and selling it, they think it’s a reasonable market — but there will come a day when government crackdowns come in and you begin to see the currency come down.”

Evacuation Warning for Irma, let’s put it out early.

Gov. Scott Declares State of Emergency to Prepare Florida for Hurricane Irma

NAPLES, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 17-235 declaring a state of emergency in all 67 counties within the State of Florida in response to Hurricane Irma – a major Category 4 storm approaching Florida. By declaring a state of emergency in all 67 Florida counties, Governor Scott is ensuring that local governments have ample time, resources and flexibility to get prepared for this dangerous storm and are not hindered, delayed or prevented from taking all necessary actions to keep communities safe.

Governor Scott said, “Hurricane Irma is a major and life-threatening storm and Florida must be prepared. I have continued to be briefed by the Florida Division of Emergency Management on Hurricane Irma and current forecast models have Florida in Irma’s path – potentially impacting millions of Floridians.

Today, given these forecasts and the intensity of this storm, I have declared a state of emergency for every county in Florida to make certain that state, federal and local governments are able to work together and make sure resources are dispersed to local communities as we get prepared for this storm.

In Florida, we always prepare for the worst and hope for the best and while the exact path of Irma is not absolutely known at this time, we cannot afford to not be prepared. This state of emergency allows our emergency management officials to act swiftly in the best interest of Floridians without the burden of bureaucracy or red tape.

“In Florida, we know that the best way to protect our families in severe weather is to have a plan. I urge all Floridians to remain vigilant and stay alert to local weather and news and visit FLGetAPlan.com today as we all prepare for Hurricane Irma. We will keep monitoring and issuing updates on Hurricane Irma as it approaches Florida.”
